As a lead teacher at Everyday Magic, my main task is to provide 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders a wide variety of activities for success and positive self-expression through an interactive curriculum. I focus on meeting the individual needs of children and provide an environment that encourages the discovery of their talents. I also work with the children to build new forms of communication to help them through the various stages of their growth and development. In addition, I also assist them with homework by providing critical thinking skills and encouraging children to develop self-efficacy. Show less

    • AVID Tutor
      • Feb 2013 - May 2014

Through AVID, I tutored multiple subjects to high school and middle school students. This tutoring sessions are held during school hour in a 7:1 ratio. I facilitate the tutoring and discussion session in order for students to work together to come to a solution through questioning rather than simply being told the answer. This allows students to critically think and pin point their strengths and weaknesses. Providing them with the academic tools and support needed to push them to go from average to high performing college bound students. Show less

      • Dec 2012 - Jun 2013

As a San Francisco Promise Peer Mentor I provided academic assistance to middle school students who were identified as potential college bound students by their teachers. The goal of the program was to help students who were performing below their potential and give them the aid and resources they needed to become college bound students. I had a case load of four students that I saw three to four times a week during school hours. I sat in class with them overlooking their in class work and redirecting them if they lost focus. In addition, I assisted students with their note taking skills, studying skills, and helped them with their homework. Show less

As a peer mentor I meet with students who were on academic probation (g.p.a 2.0) to motivate and assist them toward academic success. These meetings were on a one on one basis where we discussed strategies and techniques such as time management, speed reading, how to write notes, to help them succeed academically. I also presented workshops to students to teach them organization and study skills in order to better prepare for their exams and daily course work. Lastly, I supervised and trained new employees on work ethic and the counseling fundamentals needed to help students. Show less

    • Summer Bridge Peer Counselor
      • Jun 2011 - Aug 2011

The Summer Bridge Program is a part of the Academic Resource Center. It only takes place in the summer to introduce incoming freshmen to the school and prepare them to succeed in college. The transition from high school to college can be a challenging one, thus as Summer Bridge Peer Counselor I created workshops and curriculum to help freshmen ease into the process and college culture.
