During the four years I worked with Diane Rubins as a member of the senior management team at Dover, she was consistently creative, hard-working, and eager to take on new challenges. Her publishing judgement is astute--always informed by data and current market awareness. She is particularly adept at negotiating and in general dealings with temperamental authors and illustrators. Diane brings her background in education to her editorial role. She often referenced that experience in our evaluation of prospective publishing properties. At the same time, she is keen to try new concepts, packages, and clever approaches to enrich and entertain children's minds. Diane knows the retail marketplace intimately. Her observations on how children's books and other products are merchandised are extremely valuable to the publishing process--in terms of packaging, pricing, and positioning, among other attributes. She is also highly aware of competitors' products and their strategic moves. Though not a large part of her responsibility, Diane is a strong line editor--sensitive to the nuances of good writing. It was a pleasure to work with her.
