Independent Business Owner
-
Oct 2005 - Nov 2012
Sunset Club is a lifestyle store selling surf & ski wear and related products that I co-owned and ran successfully with my partner for 7 years. Every aspect of running the business was my responsibility including stock purchasing, merchandising, accounts, building our data-base, implementing consumer promotions, staff training and motivation, health and safety, and most importantly, ensuring the business was profitable. I developed great management skills during this time as we had 2 lifestyle stores, a surf school and a coffee bar to manage simultaneously. Show less

Business Development Manager
-
Sep 2002 - Oct 2005
In my role of Account Manager my key responsibility was the growth and development of my sales territory through my existing account base of hair and beauty salons and the growth of new business. One of the brands I distributed, Alterna, was at the luxury end of prestige hair care therefore the quality of the salons I worked with reflected this. I was then promoted to Business Development Manager which was mainly a door opening and development role. This was a very demanding position which required a lot of confidence and determination. It was my responsibility to identify and open the targeted accounts, introduce the product range, training all staff members in product knowledge and key sales skills, implementing a marketing and promotional plan. When the account was optimized it was passed over to the account manager. Show less

Business Development Manager
-
Jul 1995 - Sep 2002
I joined Aveda, a luxury lifestyle brand from America that was one of the first natural/green ranges in our market, in its UK conception. I was one of the first original four sales people employed when the company began. We had no accounts and our role was purely to develop and grow new business. As the company evolved so did my role. The product domains expanded from hair care into skincare, makeup and lifestyle products and I was exposed to some amazing training including completing the Ruby Hammer Master class, being trained as a makeup artist by Ruby (off TV’s 10 years younger) herself. During my seven years with the company we had as business partners many of the high profile “celebrity hairdressers”. When the company was bought by Estee Lauder it was a multi-million pound turnover brand and I was very proud to have part of its success. Show less

Sales Consultant
-
Jun 1988 - Jul 1995
This was my first real sales role in the luxury hair/skincare field. I joined the company as a Sales Consultant for the North West responsible for account management of the existing business and development of new accounts. I was very successful in this role showing major percentage growth and won various awards including Salesperson of the Year twice. After three years I was promoted to Regional Sales Manager for the Northern region and ran a team of seven sales consultants and five educators. My primary responsibility was to achieve my regional target. This was achieved through effective man-management of my team and included setting individual targets, appraisals and follow-up, team motivation and implementing incentives and promotions, delegating tasks and additional training where needed. Our team went on to win Team of the Year twice. I was then approached by Aveda to join their team and was ready for the challenge. Show less

Advertising Sales Executive
-
May 1986 - Jun 1988
I joined this company as an Advertising Sales Executive. My role was to work on various projects that our company won after pitching for the business. I sold all the advertising space in the in-flight magazines for Blackpool Airport, worked on marketing material for TVR sports cars, was involved in ‘A Vision for the Cities’, a English Tourist Board incentive to promote tourism in inner cities and was loaned out to the North West Tourist Board, one of our biggest clients, to help produce brochures and hotel guides. This included creating strong adverts for many prestigious hotels in Northern England and dealing with major northern tourist attractions like Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Blackpool Zoo. Show less
