I am proud to be establishing this innovation ecosystem to activate the hydrogen industry in South East Qld with the support of NERA & RDA in a voluntary, unpaid capacity at this stage. H2Q is a collaborative network of interconnected companies and institutions working together to maximise the opportunities for regional hydrogen research, technology, services and knowledge providers to contribute nationally and globally to the growth and ongoing success of the sector. As the founder of H2Q, I validated the need for the cluster with industry and government stakeholders, recruited the initial Leadership Team/Executive Committee, actively promoted the cluster, attracted and onboarded new members, prospected for new projects and led submissions. Under my leadership the membership grew from 40 in July to 102 in October 2020. As a consultant Process Engineer, I have constructed process flowsheets and techno-economic analyses for green hydrogen production via electrolysis and gasification. I have also investigated end use cases and applications across industry.

Origin’s Integrated Gas business focuses on the production of coal seam gas. I analysed and articulated production losses (e.g. gas flaring) for Board reports, prepared carbon reporting for Sustainability Reporting and developed 7-day lookahead production planning to ensure maintenance, commercial and production targets are aligned. This requires identification of production constraints across the gas gathering and high-pressure pipeline networks via hydraulic analysis, gas trading and pipeline linepack principles, operations & maintenance functional constraints, LNG facility events and its impact on the operation of the portfolio network

Integrated Operations Development Lead

Reporting to the Integrated Operations Manager, this role was responsible for ensuring utilisation and benefit realisation of the IG Integrated Operations Centre. Key responsibilities include migration of key staff into the centre, implementing integrated operations way of working and use of technology to make the Brisbane and remote operations seamless.Achievements:* Developed visualizations for the Brisbane Central Control Room (BCCR) to assist with situational awareness and daily decision-making such as Operational Constraint visuals and, production target & deviation tracking.* Detailed scope definition workshops for the integrated operations SCADA System Upgrade Project, facilitating multi-disciplined teams of Brisbane and Field operators, control system engineers and production data engineers. Detailed scope elements for Alarm management functionality, Human Machine Interfaces, Test and Dev Environments, Handover of Control and System-to-System Interfaces.* Seamless and successful migration of staff into the Level 7 Integrated Operations Centre, achieving one level upwards in organizational and team capability assessments.

Integrated Process Optimisation Manager

This function was new to Origin at the time as Origin operated on a by-asset basis and APLNG’s assets required a portfolio management basis to ensure assets collectively and consistently produced for the LNG plant’s feed and domestic customer intake targets. I led the production reliability engineering team to begin transformation of the production delivery of Assets collectively as a network so that APLNG and domestic production targets could be met consistently. I led the team in developing the Asset network models using Fekete and Hysys to pinpoint production constraints and, developed operational playbooks to ensure operations response and mitigate risks for severe events such as LNG trains or gas plant outages. This requires knowledge of events in the network leading to flaring, turndown of wells and gathering network hydraulics.

Qld CSG Process Safety Lead

During this time, Origin was rapidly developing their Upstream capability and design for the Australia Pacific LNG $25BN mega project. Reporting to the HSE Manager, the importance of embedding Process Safety into the project, design and its outcomes was recognized; and this was the main goal for the Process Safety Manager role. Achievements:* Origin’s ambassador at the APPEA Safety Conference to showcase APLNG Upstream Project process safety and operations assurance achievements, presentation titled “Strategic and Tactical Benefits of Process Safety Management for the Australia Pacific LNG Project”* Published an article for IChemE TCE Magazine titled “Make It Right, Make It Safe” which addresses the risks of building plants throughout the asset lifecycle from concept to operations.* Presented and gave assurance to the APLNG Board about how the APLNG Upstream Project is mitigating their process safety risks.* Effected a major step change in culture of APLNG Phase 1 Project and Queensland CSG business unit through the development and implementation of Engineering Assurance, a system that assists in defining and mitigating engineering scope and risk.* Implemented and configured the Dyadem Stature tool to ensure traceable closeout of 3000+ PHA actions and development of Major Accident Event Registers and Bow-Ties from process hazard studies that were performed on all phases and scope areas of the APLNG Upstream Project.* Scoped and developed the Process Safety team’s responsibilities, metrics, systems, budget, capabilities and procedures.* Implemented process safety into APLNG Upstream Project facilities engineering design through management, participation and facilitation of 200+ safety reviews * Development of elements of the Process Safety Management system for the Operate phase of the APLNG project, including Process Hazard Analyses & Handover standards, Safe Operating Envelopes, Register of Safety-Related Devices, and Locked Valve Register Process

Process Engineer

Origin Energy at this time had a market capitalization of $12M and was expanding their Coal Seam Gas developments in Spring Gully and into the Walloons area. The key responsibilities of this role included provision of process engineering deliverables such as P&IDs, hazardous area classifications, pump and line sizing calculations, hydraulic system and relief system designs as well as commissioning management plans for the Spring Gully and Walloons projects. I also led the mechanical completion, punchlisting, P&ID validation and achieved safe pre-commissioning and commissioning of Talinga (120TJ/d) and Taloona (120TJ/d) Gas Plants.Asset types worked with included CSG wells, pilot well facilities, gas and water gathering networks, Gas Processing plants, Produced Water Treatment plants, and pipeline metering stations. Water treatment processes included pond systems, chemical and biocide dosing, oily water skimming and separation, oily water biofiltration, reverse osmosis and ion exchange.

Lead Process Engineer

Lead Process Engineer for the detailed design phase of the Thai Ethanolamines Co. Ltd, Ethanolamines Project ($40M). This involved the following activities: - Developed Process & Instrumentation Diagrams for Ethanolamines Process, Storage, Truck Unloading & Loading Facilities, and Plant Utilities. Designed to API 520/521, NFPA 22, 30, 54, 58, 214 and AS 2022, 1940 and 3666.
