The Harbour School (THS) is a primary and secondary international school that recognizes children as complex individuals with differing needs, goals, personalities, and backgrounds and thus takes a customized approach to learning. Founded in 2007, THS has gained a worldwide reputation as a center of educational excellence emphasizing skills such as problem-solving, teamwork, creativity, innovation and resilience. I currently work at the Primary School and Middle School (Grade 1-8) as a teacher librarian as well the head librarian and I am tasked with the following responsibilities: - Providing leadership and expertise necessary to ensure that the school library program is aligned with the mission, goals and objectives of the school and it's an integral component of the learning/instructional program. - Creating an environment that is conducive to active participatory learning, resource based instructional practices and collaboration with other members of the teaching faculty. - Collaborating with classroom teachers and specialists to design and implement lessons and units of instruction and asses students' learning and instructional effectiveness. - Participate in the implementation of collaboratively planned learning experiences by providing group and individual instruction, assessing students' progress, and evaluating activities. - Evaluate, promote and use exciting emerging technologies to support teaching and learning, supplement school's resources, connect the school with the global learning community, communicate with students, other teaching faculty, and provide access to library services and overall management of the School library Show less

Hillcrest International Schools − a group of schools that is committed to inspiring each and every child to achieve their own individual personal excellence and to grow to become a valuable member of the global community in which we live. Guided by the British Curriculum Hillcrest International Schools cater for children aged 18 months to young adults aged 18 years by stimulating each individual’s abilities and talents within an atmosphere of mutual respect, aiming to ensure Semper Prospice (always looking forward) is a life-long quest. I worked at Hillcrest Secondary School and Senior School as the Head Librarian and I was responsible for managing both the Secondary School and Senior School libraries and textbook resources for Three Key stages: 3, 4 and 5 (year 9- 13). Tasked with the daily operation and supervision of the libraries, staff and volunteers as well as implementation of all programs and services necessary to allow students and the teaching faculty to maximize use of the facilities and their resources. My specific accomplishments were as follows: - Establishing an ultra-modern Senior School library and Study area. - Implementing a new library management system, in order to facilitate the efficiency and effectiveness of the day to day running of the libraries. - Successfully implemented the Literacy across the curriculum program. I took up a lead role in creating and developing a climate to support reading for pleasure across the whole school community. - Designed a program in which students are trained and work as library assistants hence providing leadership and guidance to our library ambassadors. Braeburn Schools is a group of 16 co-educational international schools spread over 9 campuses providing world class teaching of the British National Curriculum and GCE A-Levels to over 3,600 pupils. The schools actively value and celebrate diversity, nurturing personal growth by providing a friendly and supportive environment. I worked at Braeburn High School, Gitanga Road in Nairobi as the School librarian, Media Specialist and Learning Resource Centre manager and was tasked with managing the High school library and textbook resources for three key stages: 3, 4 and 5 (year 7- 13), as well as the Media Centre so as to meet the needs of the school curriculum and to support the reading, learning and information requirements of students, teachers and other library users. My key achievements were as follows: - Designing and developing a new and modern library that conforms to the Council of International Schools (CIS) standards. - Coordinating the change over from paper to an electronic resource management system which handles the cataloguing, classification and circulation of the library resources. -Teaching information search skills to all new students and teachers and ensuring that the skills are integrated into the teaching activities of the classroom. - Indexing and maintaining a newspaper collection as well as magazines and journals thus promoting an active current awareness program that keeps students, teachers and other library users abreast of new trends, acquisitions and activities. - Developing policies and procedures that ensure the library works within the educational philosophy of the school. - Providing leadership and guidance by designing a program in which students are trained and work as library assistants. - Promoting and marketing the library by coordinating and organizing book weeks, talks, presentations and use of displays as well as Coordinating all activities in the library and handling overall library management. I worked for the first time in a sophisticated, busy academic University library environment, translating theoretical knowledge into practical action within the eight university library sections and adding value to the work of more experienced Library staff team.
