Downtown Doral Charter Elementary School’s mission is to provide our students with a comprehensive dual curriculum and bicultural/bilingual education through language acquisition and innovative programs, facilitated by a highly qualified staff promoting students’ academic excellence creating future world leaders. I am blessed with the opportunity to work as a fifth grade teacher in the Spanish program and serve as the school's community service director. As a classroom teacher, I plan and deliver meaningful and engaging lessons related to reading, writing, history, science and mathematics in the Spanish language. The curriculum used for instruction is Anaya, which comes from Spain and provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the Spanish language. Within my classroom, I strive to create an instructional environment in which my students' diversity is celebrated and in which they are effectively supported to reach their maximum potential. As my school's community service director, I serve as the proud advisor for Kids Help Kids. Kids Help Kids is a service learning club. In the context of this organization, students learn about social issues using an interdisciplinary approach. Then, they are scaffolded in planning and implementing projects that make a positive difference in their school, local and global communities.
