Lifting Hands aims to address two defining aspects of every empoverished communitiy:-Children´s low level of education, mainly due to poor quality of education and a lack of adequate support at home. -Adults with little or no schooling, resulting in scarce employment opportunities. In the case of children, we therefore seek to create fun and motivating learning centers through volunteers who are passionate about transmiting what they know. Children are taught English, Computers and Mathematics and receive tutoring as well as sports and creative workshops. In regards to adults, we aim to provide tools for success: we offer English and computer classes and we focus on creating employment opportunities via workshops such a as sewing, food manipulation and business where they are encouraged to create their own businesses. We construct metered distribution systems specifically designed to meet the needs of the individual village. We plan and work in partnership with communities and local governments to make systems that are appropriate for the technology available in the community. Families are responsible for assisting with manual labor and financially contribute for their own domestic connection. Water committees are created by local elections; members are trained and educated on the maintenance of the system as well as a process for collecting fees to allow long term sustainability. http://www.ettaprojects.org/who/ Show less

Transboundary water governance : adaptation to climate change project. The project contributes to Climate Change Governance Capacity, particularly aiming to develop good governance and local capacities to adapt to climate change through applied research, awareness raising, community participation, and by replicating effective models of integrated ecosystem approaches to water management. Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) and strategies for ecosystem-based adaptation to climate changes need to be efficiently implemented, in order to ensure the provision of environmental services. My collaboration consisted on supporting the team through an analysis and and report on livelihoods and ecosystem services of the communities located in the middle and lower areas of the Sixaola River basin.
