      • Apr 2016 - Present

Waggy Walky's dog walkers are expected to manage our clients, transportation, and build our own schedule without managerial supervision. A requirement to succeed is to be able to maintain email and smartphone communication during all hours. Dog Walkers accept and decline jobs according to what is available at the time. After accepting a client, it is our job to reach out to them and schedule a preliminary Meet and Greet. Our ability to succeed hinges on our ability to establish a rapport and sense of trust between us and our clients, as well as the dog(s). The job requires impeccable organization, communication, and animal-handling skills as well as work ethic. Dog walkers are expected to learn and adhere to Waggy Walky's safety and health guidelines, and work according to their high standards of care and customer satisfaction. Experience with animals is required and vital to succeeding. Walkers must be able to handle single or multiple dogs outdoors and inside. Many dogs have behavioral issues, special needs, or require medication administration. Walkers have to know their dogs and their needs as well as their clients do, and learn them quickly and carefully. Show less

Working at a non-profit organization requires a lot of determination, flexibility, and a variety of skills, Often duties are what is needed that day, rather than a set list of daily responsibilities. The ability to be many things at once according to what is needed is vital. Even more vital, is a deep investment in the very values the organization strives to protect and defend. Among many others, my responsibilities included assisting an on-site staff falconer in the feeding and care for the raptors and reptiles on site and at events. Many such events were for children's school groups on environmental issues relevant to the Anacostia River and the native wildlife. The expectation was to maintain control of the raptors and crowd while answering questions and delivering accurate information. I also managed front desk duties, such as filtering incoming phone calls to the appropriate desks, and monitoring and managing company emails. Interns are expected to meet, greet, assist and guide all patron. They serve as the first face seen when people walk through the door, and must maintain a positive face for ECC with excellent customer service. Interns manage volunteer contact info in online newsletter database and schedule, send out weekly company newsletters, and follow up donation campaigns. They schedule lead paint program workers with daily management of team calendar and call network, and set up supplies, rods, and bait before and during fishing instruction classes. During fishing classes, tasks involve communicating with children and parents to maintain safe environment. I served as event table supervision, distributing education materials and answering queries. As could be expected of a non-profit, a chunk of the job involved initiating canvas campaigns for donations from major and local businesses Show less
