Over the past decades, the volume of construction on soft soils, characterized by high compressibility and low strength, has been steadily increasing worldwide. Construction of modern buildings and structures that transmit significant loads to the foundation on such soils is practically impossible without their prior improvement, replacement, or the use of special types of foundations, including pile foundations. The current state of construction science, design, and technological base provides a wide range of means for building under such conditions. One of the structural methods that are increasingly used in practice and allow, in certain cases, to abandon the use of complex and expensive foundation structures are stone piles. Stone piles have mainly been used as a means of improving the construction properties of soils to create a geocomposite in the foundation with increased mechanical characteristics and to accelerate soil consolidation. Therefore, most research on stone piles has been aimed at studying this aspect of their use. Much less attention has been paid to the study of the work of stone piles as load-bearing elements transmitting vertical loads to the foundation, resulting in many issues related to the interaction of stone piles with the soil foundation remaining unexplored. This limits the possibility of their wider implementation in the practice of pile foundation construction, as one of the methods for erecting structures whose constructions can withstand relatively large settlements. The aim of the dissertation is to study the performance of foundations on stone piles in soft clayey soils and develop an engineering method for calculating their settlements. Show less
