Mountain View At Athelas, we are making point of care blood testing dramatically more accessible through applied Computer Vision and Deep Learning. We are funded by Sequoia, Initialized, and YC. Our devices capture images of your blood smear, and our software segments, analyzes, and classifies each blood cell present to return your White Blood Cell Count and your Absolute Neutrophil Count. If you're interested in working at the intersection of software, ML and healthcare, please reach out! We're hiring.

In my role, I focus on designing the curriculum, ensuring the user experience is fantastic, and that we are metric driven and consistently seeing high retention and student success rates. I helped build these programs from scratch including hiring, finding industry partners such as NVIDIA and Otto, coordinating marketing efforts, and building out the products. I particularly focus on user testing and ensuring everything we create is of a really high quality. Mountain View I was both the Product Manager and one of two engineers (across both frontend and backend) on a product to rebuild our main signed in experience from scratch. The current user experience you see when taking a class on Udacity is the result of this work. I built out the backend in a graphql based node.js, postgres stack. I architected the system, migrated data off of our old GAE architecture, and managed the entire transition of all our accounts into the new experience. I had to learn how to scale, design, and organize such systems so that others could easily join and help improve them. I also worked on the frontend to implement views in React with webpack, and sass. I built out some of the core user interface elements including the side navigation of pages, and animations between pages. As the Product Manager, I scoped the project to make sure we were only focusing on aspects that were absolutely essential and that we would actually have a small enough problem that we could ship in a reasonable time frame. I worked with our Designer to iterate through many different potential designs, test often with user testing internally and externally, and designed clear metrics and goals for our prototypes to exceed. I also worked with partners from different parts of the organization to make sure they were ready for the changes and were bought in.

Mountain View, California Lead engineer on the Teams product that organized users together into a team based on their schedules and gave them an interface to chat with one another and a paid mentor. You can see my work here: https://blog.layer.com/learning-with-teams/. Worked across the stack on both our backend in python and our frontend in Angular. Also set up our first Kafka instance to facilitate the creation of our data infrastructure.

San Francisco Bay Area I interned at Metamarkets in the Software Engineering team. I worked on the open source druid.io database - a high performance, column oriented distributed data store designed for streaming datasets. I was able to achieve the following while there: - Improved top k query speeds in a custom, in memory database by 100%. - Developed a random data generator with customizable columns, cardinalities, and emitting rates. - Created extremely fast, low memory approximate histograms for all… Show more I interned at Metamarkets in the Software Engineering team.
