• Formulated a contact model in Abaqus to simulate the physics of Ultrasonic nanocrystal surface modification process. Contact modeled was verified using the Hertzian contact theory • Johnson cook plasticity model employed to obtain the residual stress profile along the depth of the workpiece• Simulated the process to understand the effect of different process parameters including feed rate, vibration amplitude and tool static loads• Mesh refinement study also carried out• Developed a user material code (UMAT) to study the crystal plasticity behavior of the UNSM treated material. - Led a team of 4 people to propose an optimum design for CFRP (M55J) aerospace support structures - Design variants assessed: Laminate, Sandwich structure with honeycomb core layer, Hat stiffened structure, Grid structure - Design Parameters assessed: Number of composite layers, Composite layer orientation and thickness of the layers. - Modeling, Modal and Stress Analysis of different design iterations were carried out using MSC PATRAN with a loading condition of 1.5 ton being applied on the structure. The frequency of the different vibration modes analysed and compared with conventional structure made of aluminum subjected to same loading conditions - Proposed a design with 17 kg lower mass for the required specifications Show less
