Child Development Specialist
-
May 2022 - Aug 2022
I worked with kids between the ages of 7-17 for 13 weeks during the summer of 2022. I also was able to work as a counselor with the leadership program that is offered for the campers who are 15-17 years old. My entire experience at Mountain Camp was amazing because I was allowed to explore new leadership tactics and further understand how to help children through this developmental time in their life. We would teach activities, manage groups of up to 22 kids, and conduct mindfulness exercises. Show less

Child Care Specialist
-
Jan 2022 - May 2022
I worked with children through the grades K-5. Every 9 weeks of the school year, each specialist would be given 15-20 children to look after for the next 9 week section. I worked on development of their social skills such as being kind to themselves and others. They learned how to properly communicate their thoughts through words and actions. They learned how to make their own choices and process the consequences from each. Creating healthy relationships, overcome adversity, and being responsible we’re also skills that we’re taught. The entire staff would have weekly meetings to discuss what improvements we can make on how we can help the kids grow into independent, self-sufficient young people. Show less

Lead Counselor
-
Jun 2021 - Aug 2021
I was able to hold a Lead Counselor position for the duration of the summer. Being a lead meant I would be managing two different groups of kids each week. There would be two counselors per group and 12-14 kids in each group. I worked with kids between the ages of 8-13 mostly this summer. I was able to hone in on my time management and team management skills during this position. It taught me how to communicate effectively in order to keep the day running smoothly. Junior Counselor
-
Jun 2019 - Jul 2019
I was able to be a part of the Junior Counselor program at Mountain Camp Woodside where younger applicants can have the opportunity to work as a counselor under supervision. I would join a group each session and observe, learn, and support the other counselors. This was a very valuable experience as it taught me necessary skills I would be able to use in the future when taking care of kids.
