  As a substitute teacher at a special education school, I embarked on a remarkable journey filled with compassion, growth, and invaluable experiences. Each day presented unique challenges and rewarding moments that shaped my perspective and deepened my understanding of the incredible students I had the privilege to work with. Stepping into the classroom, I was greeted by a vibrant and inclusive atmosphere, where diversity thrived and individuality was celebrated. The students I encountered possessed a wide range of abilities, and I marveled at their resilience, determination, and unwavering spirit. Their diverse needs and learning styles challenged me to be adaptable, creative, and empathetic in my approach to teaching. Collaboration played a crucial role in the special education school environment. Working closely with dedicated educators, therapists, and support staff, I embraced a multidisciplinary approach to meet the diverse needs of my students. Together, we developed individualized education plans, implemented effective teaching strategies, and provided necessary accommodations to ensure every student had the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Despite the occasional challenges that arose, such as managing behavioral issues or adapting lesson plans on the fly, I found great fulfillment in witnessing the genuine connections forged within the classroom. The bonds formed with my students were not only founded on knowledge transfer but also on trust, empathy, and the celebration of their unique abilities. Looking back, my journey as a substitute teacher at a special education school will forever hold a special place in my heart. It taught me invaluable lessons in patience, compassion, and adaptability, while the students taught me the true meaning of resilience, courage, and unconditional acceptance. I am forever grateful for the opportunity to contribute to their growth and thank them for helping me grow as an educator as well. Show less

  I worked with four classes of seventh-grade students over the course of a spring semester. By the end of my experience, I was able to run all the classes by myself which included brainstorming ideas, creating lesson plans, talking with other professionals, managing the classes, meeting with parents, and more.
