I lead the day-to-day operations of the city and supervise 27 full-time employees, two (2) part-time employees, and around 50 seasonal employees. I am the main contact for economic and community development for the city. I also serve as the main human resources contact as well as the one of the key managers of the city's Facebook page and website. I also act as Carlisle's Zoning Administrator and Floodplain Manager as well. We are currently working on developing a plan to move City Hall to an old bank, transition the police department into the current City Hall, and then move the current Library to our Recreation Center. Other large-scale projects we are working on include; rolling out a new city logo, reviewing and updating the city’s personnel handbook, policies, and SOPs, transitioning to a new electronic payment system, and switching to full-page billing. As Zoning Administrator and Floodplain Manager, I advise the Board of Adjustment, Planning & Zoning Board, and City Council regarding zoning matters as well as assist interested parties in the complex process of developing in a floodplain. Major plats or construction projects in review or construction in Carlisle include Danamere Farms Plats 6-8, Randleman Ridge Plat 10, a CTI Readymix plant, Martin Marietta Sand & Gravel Quarry, MidAmerican Grid Resiliency Facility, and PDM Metal Fabrication Facility. Acted as Marengo's Zoning Administrator and Floodplain Manager as well. I led the day-to-day operations of the city and supervise 12 full-time employees, four (4) part-time employees, and around 21 seasonal employees. Helped develop and manage an operating budget of $3.1 Million as well as manage relationships and interests of a mayor and five city council members. I served as the main manager of the city's portion of a shared city/chamber website as well as the chief manager of the city's Facebook site. I also served as the main contact and coordinator of Marengo's premier community event, the 3rd of July Festival, which was ranked amongst the 10 best Iowa Independence Day Festivals in 2016. I started my position after an extensive furlow of the previous city administrator and loss of the city's financial manager. This resulted in a successful search to fill financial manager position vacancy within first 3 months of my hire. I led an insurance transition to Health Savings Account resulting in a cost savings of approximately $50,000. Large-scale projects I worked on include; finalizing a $3.4 Million multi-phase sanitary sewer rehabilitation project, coordinating infrastructure improvements with a $26.5 Million hospital renovation and a $2.4 Million elementary school expansion, and leading the expansion of an aggressive city-wide nuisance abatement process. As Zoning Administrator and Floodplain Manager, I advised Planning & Zoning Board and City Council regarding zoning ordinances and issues as well as assist interested parties in the complex process of developing in a floodplain. • Aug 2015 - Dec 2015

I shadowed Nevada City Administrator Elizabeth Hansen to learn the duties of a city administrator as well as their interactions with the public and departments within local government. During our time together, we studied and discussed council packets, budgeting tables, capital improvement plans, project plans, administrative forms, and various other materials. I have also had the opportunity to ride along with various department heads to tour department facilities. During these tours, we discussed duties, requirements, interactions, and their advice for working in the public sector. I also reviewed and compared Nevada’s website to comparable cities to form suggestions regarding web and social media presence. Another project covered best practices and policies for uniforms to assist in the development of an administrative policy and gain employee input before ordering new uniforms. Show less

I was rehired by the auditor’s office to work General Election. Duties were similar to the primary but included more work sorting and dispersing ballots. The larger number of votes overall also increased not only the volume of work handled but the difficulty in of maintaining high standards in the finer details. Both were accomplished by the election team extremely well. I was rehired by the auditor’s office to work General Election. • Grain Operations Laborer
      • May 2011 - May 2014

As an operations laborer with Key's grain department, I quickly became a man of MANY hats. I augmented other organizational specialties including administrative support duties as needed. This included providing customer service regarding grain transportation and logistics, building strong rapport and strengthening existing relationships with customers, and maintaining unofficial and often changing inventory records for multiple storage locations. I regularly coordinated processes between internal organizational departments to meet management goals and accomplish projects during which time I researched processes and developed possible solutions for difficulties as they arose. During my final fall with Key, I ran the Gilbert elevator during the corn and soybean harvest. This successfully brought together my previous experience to utilize my skills in running one of seven grain elevators in Key's northwest service area. Show less

    • Legislative Page
      • Jan 2012 - May 2013

Serving as a legislative page for the Clerk's Office provided great experience in directly interacting and serving the public. The goal of a page and any government employee for that matter should be doing their best to ensure a positive experience for the public you are interacting with. Seeking a positive outcome in this service is paramount. I was lucky to provide this experience to many Nebraskans who came into the Capitol during my service there. Serving as the initial point of contact for much of the public lead to constant opportunities to resolve diverse issues involving a wide variety of stakeholders including: Senators, legislative staff, state employees, and the general public. Through positive leadership and meeting challenges, I was given the opportunity to supervise and train small groups of pages in duties and processes. This included the handling of sensitive legal and personal documents. I was also one of a few pages who was allowed to assist the Lieutenant Governor in effectively and efficiently facilitating state senate floor debate. One of the most rewarding experiences personally was overseeing adherence to proper procedure during hearings for the Health and Human Services Committee. During my time serving that committee, I not only learn a large amount of knowledge about public health, I also learned the impact, either good or bad, that government can have on individuals.
