As a Social Studies teacher, I am teaching 9th grade Global History and U.S. History. I am co-teaching two classes differentiating and scaffolding to meet students needs. As the Sustainability Coordinator, I wrote a grant to create a sustainable garden. In cooperation with the New York Restoration Project, they will be assisting us in creating a garden that will help our culinary arts classes produce foods from "garden to table". Students will be planting herbs and vegetables in our courtyard. Show less

As an experienced teacher with 7-12 permanent certification in Social Studies, I am teaching my students to be thinkers. I am using differentiated instruction and project based learning to build my students skills in reading and writing. My goal for my students is to give them the skill set needed to "Change the World." In addition to teaching, I also created a grant writing team and wrote grants to help support our school. As part of the team, we successfully won a grant with PBS Learning Media. Our school will be the only middle school in NYC to have a partnership with WNET/PBS for one year providing professional development for our teachers and using resources from PBS Learning Media to invoke inquiry and promote project based learning in our school. My most proud achievement while working at I.S. 145 Q was that I successfully created a grant team and wrote a proposal for a $10 million grant to create a STEM magnet school which was awarded in September 2016.
