I am responsible for the day to day running of the ships pumps, compressors, purifiers, piping systems, tanks, fuel, incinerator, sewage treatment plant and oil record book. The work is varying and demanding and requires good organisational skills in order to keep on top of maintenance tasks. During my time in the role my engineering skills have improved in different ways including my ability to fault find and diagnose problems, to carry out pump and compressor overhauls and also to be able to read system diagrams.I am also responsible for being in charge of my own watch where I respond to engine room alarms in addition to keeping an accurate record of the day’s parameters.
