It has been an honor to work with Derrick for the past year and a half at Phunware. I have always been able to rely on Derrick as a technical counterpart, and have full trust in his architecting, development, and analytical skills. Not only is he a strong Development Manager, his ability to translate complex technical concepts into meaningful and concise conversation with customers is a rare trait. Derrick is a great manager, colleague and friend and I look forward to seeing him thrive in his future endeavors. Cheers to you Derrick!

I knew Derrick was something special the minute I started speaking with him for the first time. He applied to my open iOS developer position and blew me away with his professional/business acumen and his strong technical skills on top of that. We screened and tested him at the solid senior level, and we're approaching time to make an offer. Then, he noticed that I was also hiring a Software Development Manager. He expressed interest in that also. In short, we brought him in promptly as a *Senior* Software Development Manager who will also do senior-level iOS work for us when he can. On the job, he did not disappoint. Au contraire. He exceeded my already over-the-top expectations. Derrick dove deep into his assigned projects without hesitation. They were complex and challenging. He started as iOS developer on one of our top projects, and then took over as Development Manager when he got to a good point. If that weren't enough, he also jumped in to help on the Android side. Derrick had another project that tapped into his Xamarin background also. He slayed that as well, quickly ramping up on our mapping/wayfinding technology and SDKs, and working through serious technical and resource challenges. He easily put in 50-60 hour weeks to get all of his projects done, and that was only his first 3 months with us. I told him this is not typical, and not what I want from him in the long run. It's not sustainable. We'll make it up to him. He never complained. He just went above and beyond and nailed everything he did, within the constraints he was given. If all that weren't enough... you won't find a nicer guy with better communication skills. Derrick is the complete package, and I would work with him anywhere/anytime.
