Colleen Reilly
Out of the many people I've had the pleasure of working with, Derek is one that stands out. The first thing I noticed about Derek is his unyielding appetite to learn from the others around him. He constantly seeks opportunities to better his knowledge about the healthcare industry and improve his skills. Now, he's all the better for it. My impression is Derek developed a highly evolved understanding of healthcare data ecosystems, from data entry in disparate sources to industry woes in data analytics. In addition to his own improvement, Derek adds nothing but positivity to the culture of the team. I never once saw or heard of Derek negatively impacting the feelings of others. I only witnessed him lifting others up, smiles ear to ear with his presence, and good communication with all his team members. It was a pleasure to work with someone who's lighthearted personality organically connected people in ways every manager dreams about. Derek is a valuable asset to any organization.

Facility Health Information Management Director
-
May 2021 - Present
I am responsible for managing the Facility HIM Department that dealt with unbilled accounts, pending physician coding queries, and in-house document imaging. I work directly with the facility physicians and clinical team to ensure chart documentation is completed correctly within a timely manner. I also serve as the Facility Privacy Officer and Records Management Coordinator. I joined during a difficult period for the facility HIM department due to a long absence of a director in the role. I faced many challenges due to having to create entirely new relationships and trust with the facility leaders and physicians to improve the timely completion of the documentation so that the accounts could be billed. I successfully led the department with transitioning the document imaging tasks from a centralized location to being within the facility. I also improved the facility unbilled account metrics by decreasing the length of time it took for physicians to complete their documentation by 50% compared to the previous 3 years. Our main systems used to accomplish our goals were 3M 360 Encoder, Meditech, and Horizon Patient Folder (HPF). Show less
