Derek and I co-founded Canary Drones in November 2014 and worked together for over 2 years. Derek is a hustler, there is no task or challenge that he doesn't seek to face head on. Derek pairs world-class leadership skills with a strong technical prowess that allowed us to effectively communicate our vision. His passion and storytelling skills helped us build out our team and find industry and academic partners to best position our company to win. This was all rounded out with problem solving skills that allowed us to get tasks done. Derek is the most well-rounded leader that I have had the pleasure to work with. He will be a top-performer in any role, and add immediate value with his leadership and problem solving skills.

Derek is a dedicated and hard-working volunteer with a big heart. His energy motivates and inspires his coworkers, and his thoughtful contributions are insightful and invaluable. He's always willing to take on more than he signed up for, and he always sees it through to the end. As a leader, Derek makes effective decisions and always congratulates and appreciates others, while recognizing his own areas to improve. His passion for sustainability is only outshined by his passion for doing good. I wholeheartedly recommend Derek for anything that involves making the world a better place.

I am a currently continuing my previous role of supporting the sales process by reviewing closing contracts to mitigate risk to Wartsila. I am supporting the delivery team by overseeing the technical project management aspects with the customers. My goal is to bridge the gap between the commercial and technical segments of the Wartsila in order to provide realistic expectations to customers and deliver on them.My most recent accomplishments:https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2022/08/23/hawaii-close-coal-power-plant/7844893001/I have become a subject matter expert in Asana, a powerful project management tool. I have led the standardization of the tasks, personnel, responsibilities of all those involved in the delivery of energy storage projects. Currently, we have over 50+ projects and 100+ people involved using the templates. My new goal is to utilize the data to provide actionable insights regarding resourcing to upper management. Scaling our business is core to my goals in this role. The scope of visualizing resourcing using Asana and Power BI has gained traction enough for me to have one FTE under my management. Show less

My time as a Senior Proposal Engineer at Wärtsilä has taught me a lot about energy storage technology. I came in with a career goal of playing a significant role in the Energy Storage industry by contributing to 1GWh of energy storage. I am happy to have met that goal in 2020 by designing and being the technical lead through the sales process on over 2.5GWh $500M of projects signed. During this process, a deep understanding of degradation, balance of plant, cell chemistries, customer use cases, market applications, and inverter specifications had to be made. I am proud to have worked with many groups to achieve this, including Product teams, software engineers, delivery teams, services, major PCS vendors, battery suppliers. I am moving to the Wartsila delivery team to continue to see these projects through. Show less

My role at ForeFront Power largely entailed getting the storage division off the ground through detailed cost estimation, technology reviews, interconnection interpretation, and design review. A key portion of my time went to developing and presenting a financial analysis for spearheading community solar plus storage in the New York market. Aside from technical skills and understanding provided to ForeFront, I have learned skills in project finance and business development. I have a deep understanding of the energy storage supplier market and practical applications of each of their technologies. Show less

After two years with Engie Storage (formerly Green Charge Networks), I played a crucial role in the construction and installation of over 25MWhs of energy storage systems across 75 sites in the SCE and SDG&E territories. I managed the construction of five solar plus storage sites in the Grossmont Union High School District and received Permission to Operate by SDG&E, the interconnection application process for over 40 sites, and technicians for system operations and maintenance in Southern California. Because of this experience, I am well versed in all aspects of energy storage installation from Engineering Procurement and Contracting to utility Permission to Operate in the Southern California region.
