Scot Industries is a company that provides a wide range of tubing and bar products. I manage the quality department which is responsible for the quality and inspection of these products, using a wide variety of inspection instruments on a daily basis (micrometers, calipers, bore gages, snap gages, dial indicators, profilometers, chrome testers, ultrasonic equipment, etc.). I manage several employees in the department, as well as deal directly with customers and the mills in regards to our product. Scot Industries is ISO certified, and I am responsible for maintaining and updating ISO throughout the shop, including yearly ISO audits with an outside auditor. Other responsibilities include tracking and filing claims with the mills, handling all customer claims, visiting customer and vendor facilities to maintain relationships, completing customer requested documents including PPAP's, all internal calibrations, and continually exploring new ways to keep the quality department as efficient and as cutting edge as possible. I was a coop who had the opportunity to work in several different areas. I worked for four months on the floor serving as a manufacturing engineer. I then worked for nine months in the metallurgical lab where I primarily investigated the root cause of failures in metals. I last worked for four months in product development serving as a design engineer. I was given a project where I successfully proved and solved a spring buckling failure by designing and implementing a testing fixture, where future failures were prevented. Show less
