Mr. Long is a very civic-minded individual with the greatest good for the greatest number of people at the heart of his work. Dennis truly embodies the Jesuit ideals of service for others and his collective responsibilities at Canisius College and in the broader community have served to enhance the lives of countless underrepresented and marginalized citizens. I give him my highest recommendation.

At Canisius, I received a Liberal Arts education grounded in Jesuit principles and philosophies for learning and service. I have developed strong analytical, critical thinking, and research skills as a result of my undergraduate work as a Political Science major via courses in Research Methods, Comparative Politics, and Political Theory (among others). I minored in Sociology at Canisius. My Sociology minor has allowed me to further my research and analytical thinking skills. I have gained a strong understanding of the various agents and institutions of society with its varying functions, beliefs, and structures. I was fortunate enough to intern at the Western New York Regional Office of U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer while a student at Canisius. I have been extremely involved with service as a student and was recently recognized with the annual Pedro Arrupe Service Award. Show less

As a Community Service Intern, I coordinated three major outreach programs to the poor and homeless of Buffalo, namely, The Buffalo Burrito Project, the Sandwich and Spirituality Ministry, and the South Buffalo Community Table Soup Kitchen ministry. I directed the weekly “Sandwich and Spirituality Ministry” with an average of 15-20 student volunteers who help to serve an average of 60-80 individuals at a designated downtown location. I coordinated the “Burrito Project” homeless outreach program with an average of 20 student and faculty volunteers who help to serve and minister to an average of 60-80 individuals at various downtown locations. Additionally, each week I was responsible for collaborating with student-athletes to set up a visit to a local soup kitchen. Show less
