Literacy Coach & College in the Schools Reading

am an active learner while passionately promoting increased reading instruction to raise our 2100 students’ literacy levels. I work to increase our students’ success by implementing current reading research and data driven approaches as well as innovative approaches that have proven successful with older struggling readers. I attend and facilitate multiple Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings. It is through these PLCs where across content grade level teams meet to address student work, data and applied common literacy strategies, supporting the Common Core Standards, while noting progress via formative and summative data cycles and nationally normed assessments. I work with teachers through the Teacher Development & Evaluation process by setting goals for themselves and work towards those goals to positively impact student learning. Designed and facilitated curriculum alignment, grades 6-12 English and reading, to the Common Core. I am on the Leadership Team where Content Leaders plan the implementation of school-wide learning approaches. I am a representative on the school’s Site Council; representing and recommending 6-12 literacy plans for our population. As a Literacy Coach I support all content teachers (grades 6-12) as they implement more literacy strategies into their classrooms, teaching our students. I do this by presenting professional development sessions on research-based reading strategies as well as leading professional developments in the building, model teaching, observing classrooms and conferring with teachers. As a part of being the Literacy Coach, I mentor non-tenured teachers in their pursuit of tenure. I teach reading classes to 11th and 12th grade students who are not yet proficient in reading. I was recently awarded a grant enabling me to bring the use of more technology into the high school students’ hands, which demonstrated faster growth of their reading levels. Show less

Special Education Reading Lead Teacher teaching seventh and eighth graders reading who had multiple Sp. Ed. needs (SLD, EBD, Autism). Collaborating with general education teachers, sp. ed. teachers, parents, administrators, and out of school providers for the best program of success for the student.
