AJAC's primary mission is to work with Washington state employers to develop and implement “21st Century” high demand apprenticeship programs for the incumbent workforce in the aerospace and advanced manufacturing industries. This "21st Century" concept utilizes a dual-training method combining college-credited classroom instruction simultaneously with structured on-the-job training to transfer the invaluable knowledge and skills of the experienced workforce to the next generation. All programs are determined based on employer demand by location and occupation. AJAC apprentices can also earn a two year degree, at 50% reduced tuition and zero college debt in addition to a portable nationally recognized industry credential providing the opportunity for both an educational and career pathway. AJAC programs are registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship Training Council and approved by the Department of Veteran Affairs for use of GI Bill benefits. AJAC currently works with 12 community and technical colleges, 13 School Districts and over 260 employers in Washington State. In 2017, with the support of Governor Inslee, AJAC launched the first statewide cohort of registered apprenticeship which allows for youth as young as 16 years of age to participate in registered apprenticeship. Youth are able to earn 1-3 high school credits, up to 15 college credits, gain over 2,000 hours of structured on-the-job training under the supervision of an industry expert mentor, earn up to $28,000 in wages, earn an industry recognized credential and a high school diploma providing real-world career connected experiences allowing for youth to make a more "educated" decision as to career opportunities and pathways. Other AJAC programs include Pre-Apprenticeship - Manufacturing Academy (MA) and Advanced Manufacturing Prep (AMP).
