Linda Folster, M. Ed., CCDP

I’ve known Deirdre for many years, dating back to 2008 when I was a new case manager and I took a few online courses from her through Life Strategies. In those days, I vividly remember the effort she put into reading my work, and offering very specific, useful feedback. This signaled to me that she is a true teacher, and someone who cares about people and values quality. This approach resonated with me, because that’s the kind of career advisor I was striving to become! Fast-forward to today, where I am privileged to work on her Career Services Team at Yorkville University, and my experience of her is consistent – only this time, I get to know her, and learn from her, at a deeper level. Deirdre is utterly dedicated to supporting people and organizations to reach their potential. She tirelessly works from a place of heart-based vision to create learning opportunities for people who want to elevate their careers – whether through providing leadership to her staff, direction to her peers, or support to students who have nowhere else to turn. The word that comes to mind to describe her is INTEGRITY. What you see is what you get, which is incredibly refreshing! I so appreciate Deirdre’s transparency, determination, and leadership, all grounded in her vision of excellence. I feel deeply grateful to her for the many informal and formal learning opportunities and mentorship she has provided to me over the years. I am a better professional because of Deirdre!

I would like to highly recommend Dr. Deirdre Pickerell for her tireless commitment to student success in relation to mental health and wellness, academic accommodations and accessibility and career services! I have had the pleasure of working and collaborating closely with Deirdre and have found her advocacy and allyship in relation to promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the post-secondary sphere to be invaluable. Deirdre is a genuine and thoughtful mentor as well and provides solid organizational advice around tackling complex issues related to human rights code grounds. I am grateful to have her as an institutional partner in advancing more equitable outcomes for all students.
