Editor, ireland.com
-
Dec 1999 - Mar 2008
In 1997, The Irish Times bought ireland.com from a US-based academic. Two years later, it launched its news operation, previously The Irish Times on the Web, under that domain. My period as editor co-incided with this move as we sought to bring The Irish Times to a wider audience and expand the range of content on offer. By 2002, ireland.com was the most successful website in Ireland, with 25 million page views per month and 2.5 million unique users. The introduction of The Irish Times's first subscription model later that year saw modest revenues from digital content for the first time, but the company decided to revert to a brand domain and free access in 2008.
