I have had the privilege of working with Deirdre O'Brien on two Department of State funded programs. In 2009 the Department of State (DOS) selected Deirdre as one of 24 participants for the Emerging Leaders Program. Selected from an extremely competitive pool of candidates from across the United States, Deirdre is identified by DOS as an expert in the field of human rights and an emerging leader in peace and reconciliation on the international stage. Deirdre participated in the 2010 Emerging Leader Program as an Alumna Host and Lecturer. Also in 2010, she was the keynote speaker at the Department of State funded peace and reconciliation workshop for 40 interns from Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. I am honored to have had the opportunity to learn from and work with Deirdre, an expert and leader in the field of human rights.

Deirdre was a bright, inspired and challenging student. Her engagement in her academic work was carried over in her professional engagements, undertaken with rigor and enthusiasm. I can strongly recommend her.
