  I still work within the parameters of Special Education but in a different context. I now work with students who have qualified to become consumers of the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services. It is my job to teach soft skills and provide opportunities to obtain work experience to those students that are on my caseload. Through classroom instruction we learn about teamwork, work ethics, employer expectations, employee responsibilty, etc. Through job exploration and job shadowing we practice the skills we have been learning. We learn how to be self-advocates by preparing resumes, filling out applications (employment, life, and educational), and completing our secondary education as we transition from school to work. It is my job, as Job Coach/Pre-Employment Transition Specialist, to prepare my students for a successful transition into College, Career, and Community. Show less
