I began as a staff nurse responsible for the coordination of care for three apartment complexes housing psychiatric patients with various difficulties living in the community. I provided education regarding mental health management, diet, various physical illness as applicable to each individual. I provided vital signs, inspection of home cleanliness and hygiene, assessment of psychiatric health and progress and assistance with treatment plan goals. I also provided counseling and support for medication, independent living and psychiatric issues. I became Nursing Coordinator after one year, and became responsible for our partial hospital program including medication administration and educational groups. I changed from caring for patients in apartments to patients living in our two group homes. I worked closely with our counsellors to make decisions regarding client care, and kept in close contact with physicians to update progress. Show less
