By working with my colleagues in a research capacity I aim to ensure that evidence is collected and recorded in a robust way to allow for effective reporting. In an ever changing role I work hard to promote the role and purpose of Healthwatch and the activities of Healthwatch across a wide variety of community groups. I develop and sustain effective relationships with these groups, local residents and other stakeholders. This role is reliant on effective teamwork and flexibility due to the fast paced environment which forms the basis of our engagement activity. Working with other members of the team I help generate ideas for projects, develop appropriate engagement methods and actively explore new ways of engaging with all sections of the community. This role is about giving people a voice in relation to their health and social care as well as providing them with information to ensure they can make their own informed choices. Throughout this role it is imperative to work with our research colleagues and utilise personal participatory research skills to design and deliver community research activities. This includes helping develop research questions, questionnaire design, and designing and delivering focus group activity. In addition to the more structured engagement work I also plan and deliver events including monthly public forums, pop-up events, workshop sessions and social media campaigns. Throughout the engagement it is vital that I evidence data collected, and work within the data management system of Healthwatch Bolton to ensure public views are recorded in a usable format. The basis of my work is to be person-centred, sensitive and ethical in order to support people to make their views known and maintain their trust in Healthwatch. Show less

Working with pupils, staff and parents to recognise the early stages of disengagement I work towards implementing strategies and specific interventions to aid their re-engagement within both school and personal life. A large part of my role is about establishing effective relationships with pupils and delivering 1:1 and group mentoring sessions for a variety of interventions such as self-esteem, drug and alcohol miss-use, self- harm, bullying, sexual health awareness, mindfulness and mental health. Working with outside agencies such as CAMHS and Children’s Services is integral to my role to ensure effective working and enhancement of the pastoral role. This role is extremely varied and challenging and being able to manage my time effectively is integral. Along with a growing case-load of 1:1 mentees I help with things such as an after school girls group, the school voice, lunchtime duties and general behavioural incidences. More recently my role involves providing academic support to those students in KS4. Helping work out revision timetables, catch-up sessions and being in lessons to provide specialist 1:1 support. In addition to this I have taken on the role of swimming teacher for KS3 pupils and also conduct and manage the after school swim and water polo teams. Show less

Through my successful partnerships with local key partners and the development of Social Action Champions I have worked to develop and design numerous sustainable legacy and replication plans to ensure the initiatives undertaken continue ahead of the funding deadline. Within this project I lead an additional member of staff as well as volunteers. To date I have recruited over 700 volunteers totaling over 3000 working hours, many of whom are now repeat volunteers and have gone on to participate in further education and or training through the project and with my continued support. All data including risk assessments is collated through varying and innovative means and reported quarterly to both management and funders alike. Within this role I am also a part of a team working on a government funded project called ‘Youth Contract’ in which we engage with young people aged 16-17years of age whom are currently NEET and have no GCSE’s. This role requires effective communication and motivational techniques in order to best support both the young person and their families in order to help them achieve their goals. My role also involves the planning and delivery of youth based activities which includes both base and detached sessions to young people aged between 8-24years of age. These sessions include a number of activities including arts and crafts, generic drop in’s, educational and sports activities to name just a few. Many of the young people and families we work with display extremely challenging behaviour and as such I have experience in diffusing potentially difficult situations. Show less
