  Elementary teacher for 5th and 6th grade for approximately 8 years. Presently teaching alternative education to students that completed the 4th grade and are at-risk of quitting school because they have failed two years previously. In a small group setting the students are allowed to 'skip' 5th grade and enter 6th grade in my class. I have the task of filling in some of the gaps in their previous educations while teaching them the skills needed to be successful in a regular education classroom. I also prepare the students to take and pass the 6th grade state iLeap test. It is my goal to encourage other parishes to adopt this plan for their students and for the school to increase in size to prepare other at-risk students for success. There is a waiting list for the school and parents and students are excited about the opportunity. Show less
