Aug 2011 - Present
Non-profit work means participating in community outreach and service delivery. I watched lives change for the better: consumers who gained independence and grew their community. I was hooked. I wanted to do more, so again my job description grew: IL Manager, Support Group Facilitator, CILSuite Data Manager. I became a voracious student of the Independent Living philosophy. As a result, I’ve problem solved with Executive Directors from six of the seven CILs in Oregon through a variety of both stand-alone and reoccurring meetings: The Oregon Independent Living Network, State Independent Living Council, State Plan for Independent Living, Association of Oregon’s Centers for Independent Living. Also, I conducted Peer-Audits of both the Eugene and Portland CILs. I have worked with the state by creating proposals for contracts and managing grants. Zealous about the Independent Living philosophy, I connected with Directors of CILS from across the United States. I attended the National Council on Independent Living and Association of Programs for Rural Independent Living Conferences, networking and garnering wisdom concerning successful Independent Living Programs and possible national funding. Along those lines, I became a certified Americans with Disabilities Act Coordinator through the University of Missouri. This gave me access to leaders in this field, allowing me to gain knowledge to grow Abilitree services. With this new distinction, I became the Chair of the Central Oregon Coalition for Access. Over the past 5+ years at Abilitree, I have been the manager of 20+ staff, creating and implementing department processes, and now, I want to do more. Show less
