Credit/Sales that age old conundrum what came first the chicken or the egg?Sales must be the number one priority for any business, I always include in any interview “Sales is King here” . Naturally, a sale raises revenue & returns a profit to the business, but not alone. Sales need the support of a Credit Manager who wants to play an active role within the business. The Credit Manager has the need to fully understand the entire business, build relationships with all stakeholders and gain intelligence from internal & external sources to enable the decision making process to be an informed one and in the best interest of the business. The necessity in business for repeat sales should not be under estimated during this competitive market. Without the granting of Credit there can be no sale and vice a versa. If it were your money, would you be so keen to let just anybody borrow from you? We Credit people need every sale possible why? our KPI, the monthly DSO calculation is weighted by sales. The better the monthly sales the better the DSO, provided you have also met your monthly Cash Flow target. Credit are dealing every day with risk assessment, it is the job of Credit to reduce risk at all times.Credit is also responsible for minimising any potential loss by introducing to the business a solid yet flexible Credit Policy along with a good team of Credit Controllers who share the passion for Credit and can see the added value Credit offers to the business.
