I am a second/third grade multi-age teacher with a co-teacher. We are immersed in the philosophy of inquiry and experiential learning. Using manipulatives to teach math is a strong aspect of developing math concepts that will transition to deeper understanding. I am trained in Orton-Gillingham to reach the needs of the students in our classroom who may need this type of support. I have also been the support for the No Place for Hate group for second/third grade students. We have planned projects that teach that ideology and help children learn how to stop bullying. I have also been the PYP task force person for my grade level, which gives me the opportunity to be a leader and deepen my understanding of the International Baccalaureate philosophy. My background in special education and passion for teaching children with learning differences is a guiding force towards learning more about how to teach using effective researched based strategies. I am committed to taking classes every year and participating in workshops that are available to consistently grow my knowledge base. Show less

I taught third grade in this traditional Christian school. I learned how to teach guided reading with Fontas and Pinnell as a guideline. I also used Everyday Math as the math series. I was trained to work with teachers to teach them how to implement the Open Court Reading program. Through this endeavor I was trained to present, do observations, and follow up activities with the teachers. I was able to work with reading researchers and learn directly from them. Traveling through the state of Georgia gave me the opportunity to work with diverse populations. I was trained to work with teachers to teach them how to implement the Open Court Reading program.
