I worked full time as a literacy tutor for AmeriCorps. Seventy percent of my work day I was in a kindergarten classroom at Liberty Elementary, helping children learn how to read. I worked independently with the students in groups and one-on-one tutoring. I implemented reading games and activities with these students. The other thirty percent of my work day I tutored for Transitional Youth Services with Santa Barbara County Education Office through AmeriCorps. I tutored one-one-one at Santa Maria High School and Righetti High School, helping at-risk adolescents with homework and literacy skills, as well as being their mentor. I genuinely enjoyed the services I provided and can honestly say there was never a dull moment in my day.
