As my managing editor at Take Magazine, Debbie was able to juggle multiple tasks with amazing speed and efficiency, moving from editing to writing to managing freelancers and staff with ease. She is an extremely professional and diligent worker, and a very quick learner who needs little direction; she's wonderful at problem solving, and is happy to take the initiative as needed. Debbie is a smart and thoughtful editor who works very well with writers, and is also a solid and engaging writer herself, who knows how to write stories to suit her audience. She has a good sense of humor and a quick wit, and is truly a team player. I recommend her highly, and would be happy to work with her again.

Debbie Way was an invaluable addition to the Take Magazine team during our return to print. At a somewhat hectic time when the print edition of the magazine needed editorial guidance and learned management, Debbie Way came in READY TO WORK. Apart from her tireless work ethic, keen eye for what's worth writing about (somehow appealing to the broad and niche portions of our audience), what I found most impressive about Debbie was her nearly immediate understanding of our editorial voice and position in the constantly evolving cultural landscape of New England. Debbie's short front of book pieces for the print edition of Take Magazine and longer features are perfect examples of what our editorial should be. Debbie always offered me challenging yet measured edits when reviewing my writing, and, to me, her stamp of approval on any story idea was always sacred. In addition to her writing, editing and ability to manage all aspects of bringing a magazine from editorial concept to beautiful design object, you can send Debbie to a photo shoot, museum opening party or protest and know precisely what kind of coverage and product you'll get. In the world of magazines, I watcher Debbie literally do it all. I'm clamoring to work with her again.

For this quarterly, national magazine covering the new culture of cannabis, I edit every page, as well as write engaging headlines and subheads. I occasionally write select articles. Managed the editorial for a start-up magazine about the arts and new culture of New England. Tasks included editing, writing, research, correspondence, contracts -- numerous, varied tasks related to creating a magazine with a tiny staff. I updated and managed the Shopify-based online store of a small business (jeweler Emily Rosenfeld). Using MailChimp, I designed and sent a monthly e-newsletter, with smaller, more frequent emails to specific sub-groups. I took and edited photographs for the store and for the business's social media accounts. I posted regular updates to Facebook and Instagram. I wrote and edited feature stories aimed at parents who want fun, inexpensive, and meaningful experiences with their children. The article topics ranged from summer cool-off games to our readers’ favorite holiday memories; however, crafts were my particular focus and specialty. I assisted with the production of how-to videos for the web, and occasionally acted as on-camera talent. I updated the magazine’s Instagram account and assisted with all other social media. As senior editor at Disney Adventures, I researched, reported, and wrote features and department pieces, and proofread the entire issue before going to press. I managed annual projects spanning internal divisions and outside companies, such as The All Stars program, which promoted volunteer work among kids; the annual Book Awards; and the Cool Pet Contest. This was an honorary fellowship position in Hampshire College arts building. I held regular wood shop hours, teaching students how to use the machines; acted as mentor/sounding board to students; planned and built studio spaces (using modular plywood walls) according to student needs; assistant-taught a sculpture class; and arranged facilities and other details for visiting artists program.
