Debbie Rodday is a, hardworking, dedicated, proficient woman, with a charming sense of humor, and a compassion heart. I had the good fortune of working with Debbie on the Fall 2001 voyage, aboard the SS. Explorer with Semester at Sea. Navigating 600 + students during the aftermath of 9-11 was a challenge for everyone on board the ship. Debbie’s calm, knowledge, and ability to make adjustments, greatly aided students and professors to manage a challenging voyage. On the fourth day of the voyage, the world was shaken by 9-11. From that day forward, the itinerary of the voyage would changed daily. The key to a successful voyage is the experiences that students have in the various ports. As Director of Field Programs, Debbie was responsible for those success. As ports of arrival changed, Professor’s plans and trips were crushed. It was up to Debbie to find new and educational events at the new ports. Her hard work, intelligence and experience in the field permitted all to find excellent alternatives to initial plans. Her work was extraordinary. Personally, I enjoyed time with Debbie. Through tense times, she kept her wonderful sense of humor. She never failed to put a smile on my face. I often took advantage of her wisdom, both with field programs, and when I was in need of a compassionate ear. The voyage of Fall 2001 was blessed to have Debbie being responsible for Field programs. Her presence, was greatly appreciated by all aboard. She help make my voyage one of the highlights of my life.
