Opinion Editor
-
Jun 2009 - Aug 2015
As a senior Editor, I head the opinion section of the Times of Oman and have successfully led the growth of the newspaper. My relentless efforts succeeded in making the edit and op-ed pages of the publication one among the top two newspapers in the region and fairly comparable to any international daily of repute. During this period, I emerged as one of the top columnists in the region and wrote about an assortment of matters and topics of extreme relevance. I gave Times of Oman a character and poise while I became an expert on the region’s issues, politics and macro economy. I was among the first few commentators in the world who raised voices of scepticism about what was popularly called “Arab Spring” and followed up my opinion through a series of columns and articles which have been used subsequently by writers across the world as references. Many of my columns and articles have been reprinted in newspapers and other publications across the world. As an analyst and writer I was considered one among the top in the region with a thorough and incisive understanding of the issues of Middle East and Europe. I have given the Times of Oman a character, readability and a bite. Under my supervision, Times of Oman became one of the top newspapers in the entire Persian Gulf region and was included in the same bracket along with Khaleej Times and Gulf News. Gave Times of Oman a direction and redesigned its content inside out to give it a more focus and led it to become the ambassador of the nation to the world beyond its shores. As a writer, I have been the talk of the nation in Oman - incisive, controversial and bold. Show less
