Deanna has been a student in a number of my courses. In these courses she consistently produces high quality work and contributes valuably to our conversations about important and often controversial issues. However, more significantly, Deanna is a consistent advocate for fellow students and marginalized populations. She has promoted a culture of civic engagement on campus--registering students to vote, planning events to highlight important political issues, and contributing to campus-wide conversations about creating a civic-minded student population. PLU's mission states that we seek "to educate students for lives of thoughtful inquiry, service, leadership and care--for other people, for their communities, and for the earth." During my time at PLU, Deanna has exemplified this mission and I am confident that she will be an a force for positive change.

I worked with Deanna as a volunteer when she was the Lute Vote Volunteer Coordinator at Pacific Lutheran University. Deanna is hardworking and well-equipped in her ability to politically organize and plan large events that educate and encourage other youth about their right to vote. She has an incredible passion for government and politics and has led many efforts toward educating the student population at PLU about local politics and campaign issues during the 2018 mid-terms and 2020 presidential primary elections. This school year, Deanna has continued to find ways to educate and provide resources to students about the presidential primaries and 2020 Census as the ASPLU Lute Vote Director. Even when classes transitioned to online learning, she thought of new, innovative ways to engage young people about their right to vote through digitally hosted events. Deanna's creativity and dedication to continue helping her community is impressive. Any workplace would be lucky to have her!
