Deane' Fenstermaker was recommended to me by Mike Harreld, former head of PNC in Louisville Kentucky and regional president of PNC Washington DC. Mike and I worked as teammates on successful fundraising campaigns at Louisville and with the United Way. Harreld knows the qualities which are needed for successful sales and fundraising. I take his recommendations with great interest. At the time of our first interview, GW Law had a full staff. A few months later we announced a search and Deane' was a strong candidate in a competitive pool. She emerged as the top ranked candidate for a front line fundraising position with responsibilities for major gift fundraising, for volunteer management, and for leading our alumni and development work in Metropolitan NY. In addition her great interviewing skills, Deane' brought volunteer experience as past president of the Washington DC Chapter of the Duke Alumni Association. Further, she was highly regarded as a member of the women’s committee of the Corcoran Art Museum. Fenstermaker was the kind of volunteer who completed her tasks and returned to offer additional help. While on GW Law’s alumni and development team, Deane' organized, marketed, and solicited hundreds of law graduates to support the school annual fund with gifts of $1000, and a few years later successfully raised the gift level to $2,000. With little grumbling from the donors, she successfully doubled attainment from that segment, setting the course for a record annual fund year. By her fourth year Fenstermaker’s major gift performance was among the best at the law school, and frequently in the top 5% across a university fund raising staff of 200 calling officers. She was entrusted with top donor prospects, and regularly closed gifts in six and seven figures. I promoted her to be the #2 in our hard working department, a decision that served everyone well. Deane' was highly regarded and known by her colleagues as a dependable teammate. If she agreed to recruit members for a reunion committee, she was successful and timely. She takes goals seriously. Fenstermaker gained the respect of prospects, colleagues and faculty by her ability to deliver. Deane staffed high level advisory boards for GW Law working with A list lawyers and philanthropists. Deane' continues to learn about emerging trends in our economy while also acquiring new techniques to broaden her work expertise. She often engaged law graduates on Wall Street. Years ago, she learned the fundamentals of emerging concepts like block chain financial services and Fed regulations. For her older donors, the studied the benefits of planned giving, Deane’s skills will serve her well in a variety of settings. Fenstermaker maintained a regular and aggressive travel schedule to engage prospects in her assigned regions. She listens well, and stays current with important issues – the prospects with whom she worked developed a respect for her work and her tireless efforts. I woul

We worked closely together at GW Law for nearly a decade, first building an Advisory Board for our Center on Law Economics and Finance (C-LEAF) which raised about $1 million and added huge programming support that led to the creation of GW in New York (GWNY) our innovative immersive student-centered training program for aspiring Wall Street lawyers,k which our alumni love--it has raised more than $2 million. Deane' is a joy to work with; delightful personality; good judgment; strong sense of people and keen perception of what they want. Thanks Deane'!
