As a Peer Counselor, I am responsible for developing a mentor relationship with about fifty freshman and transfer students. I also assist freshman students in the transition from high school to college life by giving them the information and skills needed in order to be successful here at Mississippi State University. This position has allowed me to work with a student staff of about thirty and an adult staff, to help plan and implement programs, and activities that the Holmes Cultural Diversity Center and Peer Counselor and Peer Ambassador program host that assist with freshman and transfer student retention rates. I have worked on groups that planned a discussion forum in which to break stereotypes about different ethnic groups and to promote unity on Mississippi State Campus. Show less
