    • Senior Mechanical Designer - Project Manager
      • Aug 2008 - Present

The position I currently hold covers a wide range of tasks. The primary role is to design and project manage new products for the company. Customisation and customer specific projects figure highly in the work undertaken. The company vision is to have a presence in a variety of areas in the electrical industry ranging from domestic accessories and lighting, right through to industrial switchboards and customised solutions. My role is to undertake this project and design work and deliver good, cost effective solutions to the industry. The role also includes working closely with overseas suppliers, mainly from China and Asia who are contracted to build and manufacture product we design and engineer here in NZ. As a part of the engineering team, I am also tasked with evaluating existing product for importation and sale in NZ. Show less

Designing a Jetpack in Christchurch NZ................who would have thought!!! My role here was quite wide ranging and interesting to say the least. Designing components for the machine, organising/ managing outside suppliers, making prototype parts in the workshop, assisting in the flying and testing operation............very much a hands on role as part of a small, enthusiastic and talented development team whose desire it was to build and fly a Jetpack with the ultimate goal to release it commercially to the world. With a philosophy of design it, build it, try it, refine it.................every day brought new challenges and most days we learnt something new and invaribly we always came up with workable, engineered solutions. To see Ray, Bill and Colin flying this machine was something quite extraordinary!! Show less

    • MV Custom Engineer
      • May 2007 - Nov 2007

In essence, this role was a mechanical design position. The key aspect was based around customisation of existing Medium voltage Soft start controllers to suit the customers installation and end use requirements. Based on a specification, my role was to draw up the respective components within the basic MV soft start controller and then project manage the entire mechanical process through to production on the shop floor. Along the way, liaising and working with a variety of people both internally and externally. The work was varied and interesting and it was a fantastic company to work for...............until the day when I had an approach from a very unexpected source! Show less

Employed as a member of a multifunctional R & D team. The design work was varied and interesting ranging from GPS modules to GPS sports devices to GPS In car navigators. Challenging, fast paced and always at the leading edge of technology. Tasks included working closely with Industrial designers, marketing, test and verification engineers, hardware and software engineers and production people. I worked closely and along side external design contractors who carried out the detail design of major projects and concurrently project managed the mechanical side of making/ manufacturing fully functional models for testing and marketing purposes.
