I was presented with the opportunity to move to the United Arab Emirates at the beginning of 2016 to set-up and establish a Middle Eastern arm to our operations. I was entrusted with all the decisions and major responsibilities that go with running a business as I found myself having to shift my focus towards sales and financial planning whilst also having to maintain my hands-on involvement in every aspect of the production process. In the first year of operation, I was able to secure key contracts with several large organizations such as Coca-Cola, The International Cricket Council, and Dubai Sports City. Hired initially as a Videographer and Editor, I quickly realized my duties at Sharp Focus would reach far beyond just creating the videos, as we were expected to involve ourselves in the whole production process. Our main client was the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and I worked on a range of projects for the organization ranging from coaching resources to online marketing material. Although my time was largely assigned to producing work for the ECB, I also led projects for UK Sport, Eurohockey and England Netball. Working across a wide spectrum of projects has allowed me to really understand the key aspects of creating a video and how best to tailor it to a specific audience. I was solely responsible for organizing several multi-camera overseas shoots in 2017, having to provide digital coverage of international cricket tournaments in up to 4 separate locations at the same time. Organising the logistics would however just be one of my responsibilities, as I would also be filming and editing at the tournaments as well as acting as the point of contact with the client and signing off the videos. I began working as a camera operator on corporate videos, then was given the opportunity to work as an assistant director on a television programme called 'Movie Kingdom'. The show explored the world of cinema with reviews, red carpet interviews and sketches. Working to such tight deadlines and interviewing some of Hollywood’s biggest stars was a fantastic experience for me and really did teach me everything I needed to know about working under pressure. I had the opportunity to branch out from my video work to gain experience in the field of radio and journalism. I was selected on the BBC’s Kick Off scheme and placed at the Radio Stoke offices. I worked with the sports team to write and record stories as well as producing entertaining and innovative segments that went out on air.
