In January 2000 I joined the Nottingham City Council Social Services Occupational Therapy Team where I worked for 16 years before leaving in May 2016 to start my own occupational therapy consultancy business. During my time with the Nottingham City Council I was employed, as a senior occupational therapist in the occupational therapy team and in the access and crisis team with social workers undertaking needs led assessments of disabled adults within a five-day response time. I gained a significant amount of experience in the assessment of equipment provision including specialist and bespoke equipment funded by both social care and continuing health care and gained extensive experience in the installation of both minor adaptations and major structural adaptation work. My experience in the field of Occupational Therapy has enabled me to assist individuals to remain in their own homes reducing their need for admission into to residential care. I have assisted individuals to return to their own homes from residential care settings through the provision of equipment and adaptations. I was involved in the two to one care project where equipment was utilised to reduce the care needs of an individual and I was one of two lead occupational therapists undertaking assessments in conjunction with specialist social workers to identify the social care and functional care needs of prisoners in HMP Nottingham. This additional role commenced in April 2015 following the implementation of the new Care Act. Show less
