    • Project : Vision-based Adaptive Flight planner for autonomous safe landing of an impaired drone
      • Nov 2020 - Present

This project develops and implements a full Vision-based Safe Autonomous Adaptive Flight Planner (VSAAFP) architecture for safe landing of impaired multi-rotor drones when one or more of the electric engines/rotor combination fails. The proposed architecture aims to ensure a fully autonomous safe landing of impaired multi-rotor drones to a suitable landing site in an unknown environment using an onboard camera. The proposed VSAAFP architecture consists of key components or subsystems that are itemized as; (1) an image /video processing subsystem, (2) a fault detection identification, (3) landing site selection, trajectory planning, estimation, and reconfigurable/adaptive control subsystem, (4) a strategic decisions making module. The overall purpose of this project is firstly to develop the required theoretical aspects of VSAAFP architecture while introducing novelty in different subsystem algorithms and secondly to implement the algorithms on appropriate hardware to develop a lightweight vision-based that can be mounted on multi-rotor drones to enhance safety by autonomously land the drone in case of engine/propeller failures. In this sense, the implementation of VSAAFP will significantly improve the unsolved problem of drones’ safety. Throughout the project, the subsystems and the total architecture will be evaluated in hardware in the loop simulation (HIL) and the flight test. Show less
