David is a highly talented software engineer with sound technical skills and an excellent team player. He is a very quick learner and has a rare ability of keeping high levels of concentration for longer periods. David has a strong focus on delivery and has always delivered to requirements, at a high quality and on time. It would be a pleasure to work with David in the future.

I have worked with David for nearly a year in the same team at BCA. David has excellent software skills combined with a wonderful work ethic. His strength lies in his ability to quickly grasp requirements and provide well thought out solutions for the same. David also has a unique teaching ability and has successfully trained other programmers within my team. David has done a great job on many projects that we have worked together in BCA. He keeps cool under pressure and is a good organiser. With an ability to manage to manage his own workload very efficiently, David is a brilliant person to have in any team.

Greenfield ASP.NET start-up property portal project. This project used the robust ServiceStack framework at the back end, providing a set of powerful components to deliver reliable and fast REST services with security, logging, and validation best practices already plumbed in. This was paired with Entity Framework as the ORM and all hosted on the AWS cloud. The user interface was a Single Page Application (SPA) which used BackBoneJS and HandleBars, as well as utilising NodeJS/Gulp/NPM for the UI build. The service plugged in to a number of third party APIs for document generation (ITP), electronic signing (Docusign), payments (SagePay/Paypal), postcode lookups (PostCode Anywhere), ID/reference checking (CreditSafe) and property portals (RightMove/Zoopla). As much as possible was automated on this project, saving the delivery team huge amounts of time. This included unit tests on all layers, selenium tests to test the behaviours in the UI, and the deployment to the AWS cloud automated through MSBuild and Powershell. The project also made heavy use of the Amazon/AWS cloud, using their prebuilt and hosted tooling wherever possible (including use of Amazon RDS, EC2, S3, SQS and SNS). As part of leading the delivery team on this project, I had regular meetings with the end client, brainstorming specifications, producing agreed feature documents and running story breakdown/estimating sessions with the delivery team. This was in addition to taking on the ScrumMaster role and the responsibilities of technical/architectural lead. This also involved a lot of discussions with the various third parties to ensure integration issues were ironed out quickly so development work could progress smoothly and efficiently. Show less

I spent some time with Zurich/Openwork through to help improve their Application Life Cycle management and create a build and release automation framework. This meant migrating data from three separate systems (for bugs, code and testing) on to the TFS platform, building workflows and custom work items which matched the business processes. I then went on to automate the process of packaging code (MSBuild/Teamcity), performing database upgrades and versioning (SSDT), and release note generation and environment setup (Powershell). This reduced the delivery time of new builds from one day to five minutes, and took a lot of the stress and strains out of the release process. Other tasks involved creating and managing a branching strategy (including writing an in house auto-merge), modifying windows applications to be auto-updating, automating smoke tests through selenium web driver using the page object pattern, and adding some process through gated check-ins and CI builds. The main application developed at Zurich Openwork was a C#/Javascript ASP.NET Single Page Web application (SPA). Towards the end of my contract, I assisted with moving their existing client side UI framework away from a slow and hard to learn/use set of Javascript code to Knockout JS, specifically making great use of the data binding capabilities it offers.
