I had the distinct pleasure of working with David while he was assigned as an exchange Fighter Pilot Instructor at Fighter Squadron One Hundred and One; the premier United States Navy flight school for carrier based fighter aircraft. During his exchange tour David proved himself to be a consummate professional and leader with an innate ability to communicate effectively across all levels. He is a high level performer who is passionate, motivated, loyal, and accountable to the organization he serves. As the Weapons Control System Phase Leader, David greatly increased student qualification rate through his innovative and dynamic program leadership. His teaching style is energetic, engaging, and on point at all times. His preparation is thorough and relevant to the topic he is presenting, and these factors combine to keep his students fully engaged in the learning process. During his tenure with the squadron David excelled at planning, coordinating and executing flawless travel detachments for over 150 personnel to various locations around the United States and abroad. These detachments, run with unsurpassed efficiency, lead to the achievement of focused learning objectives and the qualification of countless student aviators. It was an honor to work with David as a fellow instructor, and it has been a pleasure to watch his growth and success after his departure from the squadron. Without question, David would be a valuable asset to any organization fortunate enough to attain his services.

I served with David Hazell for a number of years on a Tornado Squadron in the RAF and also worked with him when he was in a senior position within MoD's Theatre Airspace Capability Area. I have known for much of his time in uniform. David is a highly accomplished pilot and a strong leader and motivator of people. He recently had the distinction of commanding one of the RAF's largest and most complex squadron during a period of intense change, an extremely difficult leadership challenge that he handled with great effectiveness and characteristic modesty. David has served in several combat zones and has a wealth of experience of leading people under pressure to achieve results. It is a mark of the man that David has a reputation for looking after his personnel ahead of his own personal ambitions. In the RAF he was highly respected by superiors and subordinates alike and achieved an enormous amount during a long and distinguished RAF career. He is the sort of person who is able to prioritise effectively under challenging circumstances and to repeatedly deliver results on time and to budget. He is a very effective communicator and a strategic thinker. His departure from the RAF is a loss to the Service but will be an enormous gain for whatever organisation is lucky enough to attract him. He is the sort of person who will make a success of whatever he chooses to do.
