David Greenberg was one of my first music industry contacts. His internship at Ted Kurland Associates received consistent positive student feedback. He is a true mentor. His insight into the industry is invaluable.

As someone who spent a significant time of my career in the dance world, interning for a music driven organization was a large change for me, and a terrifying step into a world that I did not know much about. David provided a valuable learning experience for the internship program through guidance on how marketing works in the music world, as well as allowed the interns to be involved in the process through editing, designing, and researching. His knowledge of music marketing in digital and print proves that he is on the cutting edge and is always staying up with what is new in music and marketing. His ability to work in a fast pace environment and bringing his interns along through the process is invaluable to all that work for him and with him.

My eldest daughter graduated from Boston University and is looking for work, so we have those tuition costs behind us, but still have to pay off those loan payments. Another daughter is in the midst of a whole another four year round of undergraduate courses and housing fees. (And she snagged a pastry internship in France!) Sure is reason enough to freelance, but I also get juiced being creative. Marketing tools, creative writing (some call it a press release, some call it a bio, it's their life and I make it readable in small chunks), layout and design (CD releases, ads, posters, and on), good humor (no cones though) and web initiatives. Lyric writing (BMI affiliation) through Tape Dave Music Co. Client list available on request.

INDIGENOUS RESISTANCE is a revolutionary musical collective creating crucial pan-global collaborations between indigenous cultures from the jungles, favelas and barrios with those in the industrialized world who work their musical magic in mixing studios and on laptops. We release theme-based music and albums building on the determination of Indigenous peoples in their struggles against oppression. IR releases are completely autonomous self-funded works achieved through barter, little money, but an abundance of commitment and co-operation. Production and post-production co-ordination; lyrics; remixing; design; writing press releases; creating street art posters for global art actions; website design and engineering; social marketing campaigns, strategy and execution. IR Members include Dr Das (Asian Dub Foundation), Deeder Zaman (Asian Dub Foundation), Ramjac (Asian Dub Foundation, Dub Colossus), Sawandi (Trans Dub Massiv), Adrian Maxwell Sherwood (On U Sound, Tackhead ), DJ Akaider, Christiane D, Herman Soy Sos Pearl, DubDem, The Ghost, Tuhonono and Olovatu. http://www.dubreality.com | http://dubreality.wordpress.com

“David Greenberg is the kind of lyricist that comes along once every umpteen years. His lyrics are fresh, unique and speak to every human emotion. They not only stimulate the mind but they also find their way into one’s soul. I hope you find them as enlightening as I have.” RAMSEY LEWIS While Greenberg’s been writing lyrics since he was a pup, he’s rarely found himself around a musician who wanted to turn the words into penetrating, timeless songs...as Cary Baker, of conqueroo wrote, “David never found his Elton John to his Bernie Taupin.” Nor his Jerry Garcia, his Burt Bacharach, his Neil Innes & Viv Stanshall, his Drumbo for that matter. That’s not to puff up the lyrical quality of the collection to the size of an alarmed blowfish and insinuate Greenberg is a Bernie Taupin, a Hal David, a Captain Beefeart—but even they weren’t icons when they first started tipping their lyrics into the measures of their musical partners. And to canvass for his own Reggie Dwight* or John French** by trying to hand out the sheets of lyrics to budding musicians like a hyper and overzealous Dr. Feelgood doling out pills to wary prospective customers seemed a bit slimey—to the budding musicians, at least—with the predictable outcome of having very few stuck to the proverbial wall and even less deep in the literal pockets. Still unsung after all these years, and decades in the making, he's collected them all in THE MUD FOLIO an easily accessible PDF for your late-night reading and/or intermittent song-writing pleasure. Hundreds of lyrics, hundreds of thousands of words, a few choice quips here and there sprinkled among the lyricals, all free for the taking. Though if you do write a song or two, there are those pesky legalities that need to be squared away with BMI and the copyright holder of all the verbiage found in the book; the mighty and majestic Tape Dave Music Co. (*Elton John **Drumbo) BTW, THE MUD FOLIO is available from Lulu.com http://htl.li/hvO0B + Amazon + iBooks

Downeast is created the way cider should be; fresh, natural, and really, really good. I love being able to give skeptics or newbies a sip and see their faces change ever slightly as they ponder how good it is before saying; "yes, it is!" And then there's the perks of giving out temp tattoos, stickers, and telling everyone about the free tours and tastings at Downeast Cider House situated in an out-of-the way area of Eastie, right on the waterfront. I always wanted to be in a band when I was a youngster (back when we had Marshall Stacks that only went to four...) Tone deaf and not at all musical, I kept getting kicked out of bands--well only one. And so at TKA, I was working with and marketing for the best jazzsters in the biz. Marketing, advertising, public relations. You name it, it was done. Concept, design, layout, writing. execution, wheedling of budgets, convention materials, email marketing and database management and even some I.T. stuff thrown in. Website. Overview, specifications, changes, overhauls, fixes, including the next iteration of our TKA site and coordinating the build and rollout with the vendor. RADIOTKA, streaming 24/7 creation and implementation. Tour Marketing for Pat Metheny Tours. Web initiatives and marketing tools, street team coordination, website updates. Intern program. Coordination and oversight of interns, keeping them on topic and involved, giving them the big picture while they are filing away the nitty gritty. Reviews, sometimes grading and, happily, those pesky letter of recommendations. Blogging For Berklee to give the interns a real-world view, at least from my over-experienced, near-sighted view. http://www.berklee-blogs.com/tag/david-greenberg/

Merch for corporations and musicians, like MMW. Tried to expand the reach of the company during the economic downturn, which is always a headbanging kind of time. Created a new ad campaign, worked on formulating new partnerships, became the QA Dept when the 360Merch Websoftware build was brought in-house. Many irons were in the fire when Sept. 11th became "that day" and the company decided to fold in upon itself and disappear. David Balter, the president re-imagined his own future and while the economy hit the requisite disaster tailspin downward, he created the amazing company, BzzAgent. First there is a website, then there is no website, then there is. iCAST was created in the most shimmering of website times, too bad it was on the flimsy side of the internet bubble and funded by the high and mighty CMGi. You know what they say about those on the top? They have the farthest to fall. They fell. And I had stock options. Think MySpace&Facebook&YouTube wrapped into an entertainment website w/ a branded media player that was supposed to work like Pandora. Supposed to, but never did. Site specifications, usability, and much much more. Producer of music channel with a staff of 10+ during build, launch, and, sadly, the wrap-up after the end. Live launches of Madonna Ray of Light feature worldwide, Hanson (yes that Hanson) live chat, SxSW overview, CMA red carpet, and much more. (With the other channels, administration and engineering staff, the site had over 100 employees.) Wrenched through many staff-excisions and site revamps, new VPs, etc. and lived to tell the tales; though as they note in all books on looking for work, if you don't have anything nice to say... A great time was had by all.

Here's a link to a PDF of the Borders article I wrote on the Kerouac Tribute release, Kicks Joy Darkness, produced by Jim Sampas. http://bit.ly/5G0hx4 More writings from the Rykodisc years and later to be added to el blogo Tapedave @ http://tapedave.wordpress.com First up: The Alan Douglas acclaimed liner notes for Timothy Leary's YOU CAN BE ANYONE THIS TIME AROUND. Who's on Bass? Not a revised Abbot and Costello joke...btw. http://tapedave.wordpress.com/2011/06/20/this-is-a-dangerous-album/ As Rykodisc was being ground down by the Palm Pictures peeps and being peppered into the staff in NYC, I knew I had better look elsewhere. I had already had enough of the NYC grind, and besides they weren't increasing our pay so we could actually afford to live there. In order to look for work, I wanted to get some cool letters of recommendations to put my stuff on top of the resume stack. Here's three of them that I posted in "A Letter Each From Yoko, Hunter, & Sublette." http://tapedave.wordpress.com/2011/09/20/a-letter-from-yoko-hunter-sublette/

Found and purchased most of the materials and equipment for the special-effects ride-film "Back To The Future, the Ride." You ever try and find Lava that glows? How about finagle a deal on air-compressors? When it came time to shoot Biff crashing into the building, I did all the A.D. work (forms, yelling, etc.) since I was trained in that from Steve Gold. Douglas Trumbull directed the flick, Arish Fyzee and Traci Mitchell were the Producers. Tribute site for BTTF, the ride [ http://www.giveneyestosee.com/bttf/ ]

With a scarcity of writing, directing, and other filmic gigs coming my way, there was rent to be paid and my mouth to be fed. This is what I did, as opposed to waiting tables and other jobs of that ilk. One of our Murder To Go actors was also an accomplished book keeper, so he pulled me into this line by line by line of work. Even though it threw me off my career path, I was able to take time off to direct those Murder To Go Mysteries as well as write screenplays at night and weekends. I was fired for taking a vacation. I was freelance. The vacation was preplanned. You can understand the climate of the Accounting Department with this: I understood I was going to be fired when the person who was hired for the week as my interim replacement started asking me about work that was due the next month. He was persistent that I teach him that, even though I kept telling him I was coming back way before then... Until I found out I wasn't. Which was all fine and dandy as Murder To Go started getting busier and they were able to hire me full-time.

David Landau created this thing called Murder To Go in 1982 with The Mystery Express. This was a real-time murder mystery (dead bodies in name only) which took place on board a moving train. No escape for the "murderer" or the suspects. The whole shebang was so unique, Landau pulled a remarkable feat together, so professionally, that it garnered international press. Murder To Go / MTG Inc, became the world's first national corporate and interactive theater company. Since the initial train, MTG produced over one thousand productions for such clients as Revlon, IBM, Nabisco, AT&T, MCI, Johnson & Johnson, the QE 2, General Foods, Apple Computer, Philip Morris and the Bermuda Princess Hotel, among others. I was there for a wee bit of the beginning ones; just a few bakers dozens or so. MTG was featured in l.ife, People, Entrepreneur and Businessweek magazines as well as segments on BBC-TV, That's Incredible and Good Morning America. I worked w/ David at the beginning and directed more than a few of these things: in Vegas, on board the QE2, and various assorted hotels. We also worked together on David Landau's Murder To Go game: copy writing, game rules, plotting, etc. for CBS/Ideal Toys. David's MTG site is here: http://www.murdertogo.com/index.html

First job out of college. Ran the newsfilm distribution office at first, then worked my way up from running out for the breakfast eats and running cable to AD and doing the Associate Producer duties for the commercials, industrials, and news films that came Steve's way. Learned a great deal in a short amount of time, which laid the foundation for starting Second Story Television with David Brownstein, Jill Bock, and Eugene Sher. First job out of college.
