David and I met almost 3 years ago when I Joined ADP Retirement Services. It was clear from the start about his commitment to ADP- RS, to his employees, and to the goals at hand. I was in over my head, starting during our National Sales Meeting and having never spent a day on the job. David was welcoming and made me feel comfortable in a group of very successful sales people. I didn’t know it at the time, but a year and a half later I would be working under David directly. Under David our team thrived, we more than doubled out assets under management in less than a year. Through coaching, sharing best practices, listening to each other’s calls and sales training we were able to refine and develop what we did on each call to ensure the best possible outcome for the participant. Multiple top performers were promoted out of the team to new roles based on their success on the Distribution Team, in large part because David both worked with us routinely to ensure our success, but he also gave us the freedom to help ourselves and to perfect our craft independently. He understood there wasn’t a single right way to reach our goals, but that we each had a different voice and for us to embrace those differences and to learn from each other. In my entire 20 year career, I have never worked for anybody more focused on the success of their employees than David. He cares about you both individually and professionally. For any employee that had career aspirations he would set aside the time necessary to coach and evaluate what you do, to understand what your individual and professional goals are and to create a plan to reach those goals within a specified amount of time. David didn’t just talk to you the standard one time a year at your annual review, you knew throughout the year where you stood, how you were progressing towards your goals, what areas to focus on, and what needed to be done. When you got your annual review there were no surprises, simply the satisfaction of taking that next step towards your long term goals. David is easily one of, if not the best manager I have ever had. I admire his willingness to really push and empower me to be successful on my own and to have a clear vision of what I had to do to reach my professional goals. I hope I can take all the positives I’ve learned from him and employ those throughout my career as I become a leader and manager of people, I certainly want to emulate his leadership and ensure my future employees also have a plan, the way I had one under David.
