My desire is to train up the whole child so they will be happy and healthy and ready to take the next big steps into kindergarten and beyond. I study different teaching philosophies and synthesize the best practices into my own approach. My students learn to read and write, to count and add/subtract, to measure and cut and fold. They learn to make their own art and tell their own stories. I've had consistent success in helping all my children form a lively community in our classroom. Shy children become confident, quiet children begin to talk more, energetic children learn self-control, and all children learn healthy boundaries. Every child is appreciated for who they are; they are challenged to grow in a place of love and safety. My classroom is never bland or boring -- children converse, share, laugh, contribute, and express themselves with new tools all the time. And sometimes we close our eyes and listen to poetry. I know that the foundation I give these children will benefit them for years to come, perhaps for their whole lives. Even when they've long forgotten my name and face, my work will be a strong foundation for them to build their lives on.
