Squad Leader. I had originally enlisted in August, 2000. I have wanted to be a Marine my entire life. After preparing and training my entire senior year of high school, I was able to get a first class Physical Fitness Test and I had three people enlist under me. This got me a promotion to Private First Class (E2) and a free set of class "A" dress blues upon graduating recruit training. However, the morning after I graduated high school, I was test driving a new mustang and was instructed to pull in front of an 18-Wheeler traveling 60 MPH by the salesman. The truck T- boned my side of the Mustang. It broke my back in two places, collapsed my lungs, bruised my spleen, gave me an axonal nerve brain sheer injury, imbedded objects into my head and scalp as put me into a coma for 18 days. Luckily, the salesman walked away. I was flown by helicopter to the hospital my mother was an ER nurse at. Around 14 days into my coma, the doctors had given up hope of me waking and wanted to remove me from the support I was on. So, my mother called my recruiter and informed him of everything. He and another Staff Sergeant came the next morning in their service dress uniforms to pay their respects. My recruiter's took one of the Marine Corps emblems off of his collar and placed it in my hand. My hand closed around it. My brain activity immediately picked up in front of the doctors because of that. They were shocked. Two days later, three of my friends came to my side and told me if I woke up, they would enlist. I woke up two mornings later and they are all Marines now! After I woke up, it took a long time to recover. It several years just to learn to walk properly again. I ended up eventually having to contact my senator, the Pentagon, Marine Corps Recruiting Command and even my original recruiter but, I finally got in! I graduated Recruit Training on October 10, 2008 as a United States Marine! Show less
